Welcome to Common Skies! This site focuses on, above all, the creation of a great story. We encourage new writers to practice here, and seasoned writers to keep up with what they love. All ages are welcome, but this site does contain mature themes and a whole lot of violence, so if you have to ask your parents if you can be online, this site probably is not for you. The rules here are fairly simple, as we would like to encourage freedom in writing and an organic story progression as much as we possibly can. There really are only two rules here, breaking the first will not be tolerated. That said, please do not break either rule!
1.) Be courteous to ALL players!
This refers to the people behind the characters, not the characters themselves. Your characters can be as mean to each other as you like, but keep any viciousness to your characters. If you have a problem with a person, please feel free to contact a moderator and we can help work out whatever the problem is.
2.) No Godmoding/Powerplaying!
Godmoding is when you write with your characters, but dictate the actions of a character you do not control. Small actions are not a huge deal, and if the other player has a problem, posts can always be edited. Avoid having other characters do any major actions though, just wait for the other person to post. During a fight, for example, you cannot have the other character loose to your own without the consent or the post of said other character. Powerplaying is making your character overtly powerful, to an extent that does not make it congruent with a character, and lessens the fun for those who are rping with said character. The only exception to this is if you have the other player's consent. An extension of this would be the characters you create here. Though super over-powered characters can be fun to write, this is not a home for them. This means, no beings whos size, magic, might, or abilities make it too difficult for others to interact or fight with them. We strive to keep things interesting and challenging for all the characters who arrive here.
In addition to those rules, there are only a few other items that need to be addressed. If you want to make a new character, please post it under CHARACTERS board. If you are a new member, please wait for a response from the staff before you post with your new character on any of the rp boards. If you have been a member of the site for a while and have a few established characters under your belt, we will be a tad more lenient here id you are feeling impatient. Just be warned that you might have to change certain aspects of the character if it does not conform to the feel of the site or is unfair to the other players in any way. Before you make your first character, please check out this guide: CREATION GUIDE. We do allow content above PG-13, but if it looks like your thread is heading in the direction of extreme violence, graphic sex, or anything that might warrant an R or higher rating, please post a warning in the title of the thread. Leave explicit content to the characters only, there is no reason to bring it OOC unless you are discussing how certain events effect the plot or the characters themselves.
Other than that, remember that the story is king here, and hopefully you will have as good a time as I know we do.
Happy writing!
