Physical Description:
Two horns sprout from Cate’s brow, one curled like a ram’s and the other curving lazily above her skull. She stands 5’6”, with a figure that seems to radiate grace. Her skin is dark, the color or a stormy, early morning sky. Reddish-brown hair falls just past her shoulder blades in thick waves. It’s generally braided, small braids that keep her strays away from her face and horns. Her eyes are a deep grey, with large, partially slitted pupils. She wears a chain-mail shirt with sleeves to her elbows. Blue and white dominate her clothes, the bold motif of her church repeating throughout.
Personality:
Cate is at constant at war with herself. She craves physical and emotional sensation, revels in it, lusts constantly for greater and greater highs with a fervor that scares her. Her faith tells her to deny her demon nature, that she must exercise moderation in all things. To practice in excess is to sin. She hates that she lacks the strength to deny herself what she wants, and suffers crippling guilt because of it. Nobody knows of her internal struggle except the priests she confesses to. For everyone else she presents a facade of self-acceptance.
She has an unshakeable faith in her god, and will lay down her life in a heartbeat for her Church’s cause. Her wrath knows no bounds when it comes to defending her religion, and anyone who stands in her way she will cut down without hesitation. Cate is pansexual, and if she had it her way, she would sleep with everyone she could. She gleans a lot about people from how they react to her advances, and she uses that to her advantage. She genuinely loves people in all their forms, though she tends to make true friends very slowly.
History:
The offspring between an incubus and a human was a thing Cate’s birth village feared almost more than the incubus itself. Her birth was done in secret, and she was whisked away the second they pulled her out. Nameless, crying, and alone, she was left in the woods for the wolves. Instead, a priest on his pilgrimage to the First Cathedral found her, and brought her with him. His intent was to leave her with his superiors at the Cathedral, but along the way he named her. He argued that because she was so young, and because she was only half demon that her nature could be conquered if she was raised within the church. His argument was so passionate, and promised such interesting results that they allowed Cate her life on the condition that she remained in the young priest’s care. As Cate grew, the priest rose in rank, as did she. Cate was the first person of mixed blood to ever hold position and influence within the church. When her priest was nominated for Patriarch, she became his right hand.
